Thinking Made Visible

Challenge

The challenge was to design a book on the typographer's art that would appeal to both novice readers and designers alike.

Solution

My approach was to use a mix of serif and sans-serif type to create maximium contrast in conjunction with a limited palette and variations on a single grid depicting influential typographers throughout history to the present day. I feel that this demonstrates type's versatility even with such limited parameters. The book's cover was given a matt lamination to give it a very tactile feel with its title becoming more 'visible' as it emerges from the black background. The book was then produced on a limited run for sale through independent book fayres.
